Residential Refurbishment
2008

Client Private
Project Type Residential Refurbishment/ Interior
Location Bath, UK
Cost £300k
Status Completed

Refurbishment of a Grade I listed Georgian bath-stone townhouse in the centre of Bath.

The building had previously been used as a hotel and the project involved the removal of numerous partition walls and dropped ceilings and the removal of several small en-suite bathrooms. The drawing room was knocked through to the ‘withdrawing room / library’ with the addition of a grand pair of restored Georgian doors. Modern radiators were replaced with cast iron radiators located in the window niches, and wide plank solid oak flooring was laid throughout the principal floors.

Missing ornamental detail was re-introduced to the house: decorative plasterwork cornices and ceiling roses, timber dado rails, and a pair of new marble fireplaces were commissioned for the drawing room and library.

The renewed Georgian splendour of the principle rooms contrasts with contemporary bath and shower suites with natural stone flooring and wall tiles; and modern audio, lighting and communication wiring has been introduced to the house.
